Want to become a boxer?

Step 1 Become a member of an affiliated boxing club. Check out the phone book, health clubs and universities for local boxing clubs in your area. Also check online for sites full of news and information for amateur boxers.

Step 2 Train for approximately 6 to 12 months as a boxer, learning the boxing fundamentals such as stance, defense, offense, ringcraft, combinations, rules and shadowboxing to become familiar and skilled with the sport.

Step 3 Register as a competitor when you and your coach both feel you're ready to spar as a boxer. Once this is done, then the coach can arrange some sparring sessions for you. These matches aren't scored because the purpose is to hone your skills and knowledge before having an actual boxing match.

Step 4 Arrange with your coach to go to boxing club shows and be matched up with an opponent of similar age, weight, gender and skill level. From here you can advance to novice developmental boxing tournaments.

Step 5 Compete in 11 bouts, then you're eligible to compete in provincial boxing championships. If you win a provincial championship then you can become a boxer as part of the team that competes at National Championships.

Step 6 Participate in international boxing shows and tournaments. Ultimately you may be able to make it to the Olympics and become a real boxing champ.

Don't forget you TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN!

Floyd Mayweather, Coward of the year

Floyd Mayweather Jr has been running away from Manny Pacquiao in the boxing world for the past year. Mayweather is a boxer from Las Vegas who has done everything to run away from Pacquiao during the past year. First, it was a difference of opinion on drug testing and in the past couple of weeks, Mayweather has been called out by boxing promoter, Bob Arum, also of Las Vegas, to fight Pacquiao. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/jul/24/manny-pacquaiao-fight-antonio-margarito-nov-13/
I am not a boxing fan but follow it a little bit. From my perspective, Mayweather doesn't want to fight Pacquiao because Mayweather has a lot of endorsements, like about $20 million a year. Who or what endorses him, I have no idea. I've never seen an advertisement with him in it. I highly doubt it was a roller rink endorsement (those who live in Las Vegas know what I am talking about)
So, Mr. Mayweather Jr., you may be a very good boxer, but you are not the best when turn tail and run away from a competitor. Do you think Muhammad Ali would run way from Joe Frazier or George Foreman? Of course not. So, why would you run away from Manny Pacquiao?

John L. Sullivan, legendary Boston Strongboy and heavyweight champ, used to stroll into saloons and bellow, “I can lick any man in the joint!”
Joe Louis said that Billy Conn “can run but he can't hide.”
Muhammad Ali shouted: “I am the greatest!”
Mike Tyson: "It's nothing personal, but I'm going to kill this guy."
Manny Pacquiao: "I'm just doing my job"
Floyd Mayweather Jr, "I'm going to take a long vacation from boxing"
after stating he would beat Pacquiao.

Antonio Margarito's history

The hand wraps confiscated from former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito shortly before his title defense against "Sugar" Shane Mosley contained two primary elements of plaster of Paris, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing documents obtained from California's top law enforcement agency.
A California Department of Justice senior criminalist who inspected the wrappings under a stereomicroscope and with an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer determined the wraps contained sulfur and calcium, according to a document obtained by the Times. Those two elements, with the addition of oxygen, make plaster of Paris.
The hand wraps were removed from Margarito's fists shortly before his Jan. 24 title fight against Mosley when Mosley's trainer, Nazim Richardson, objected to their use. The hardened gauze pads, which had been inserted inside the hand wraps near Margarito's knuckles, were seized by the California State Athletic Commission, which sanctions and oversees boxing in the state.
Mosley went on to claim a TKO win in the ninth round and take the WBA welterweight title.
In February, following a hearing days after the fight, the state athletic commission revoked the licenses of Margarito and his trainer, Javier Capetillo, for one year. The commission's decision is likely to be upheld in other states.
"The [state athletic] commission's decision appears to be supported by that report," said Karen Chappelle, the state supervising deputy attorney general for licensing who urged the state commission to revoke Margarito's and Capetillo's licenses.
"The only things that are allowed in hand wraps are gauze and tape and those items aren't gauze and tape," she said, according to the Times.
Margarito and Capetillo have yet to appeal the revocations of their licenses.
According to the report, Margarito's promoter, Bob Arum, had no immediate response to the findings.

Marquez Vs Diaz 2 Predictions

Boxing fans couldn’t wait any longer to see these two tough guys inside the ring once more. It is going to be a very tough second fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz. They once faced each other 17 months ago wherein Marquez managed to grab the win within the 9th round.
Once again, Marquez and Diaz will face each other once more for the WBA and WBO lightweight title at the Mandalay Bay. During their first match, both had tough fights within 6 months. Marquez had a fight with Pacquiao and Casamayor while Diaz had a fight with Katsidis and Campbell. This time is quite different wherein both are well rested and well trained.
If the results of the fight would be based on age, Diaz who is 26 has somewhat greater advantage in terms of stamina compared to ten years older Marquez. However, Marquez has had more experiences and not that old enough in order not to keep up. Fight records of both men are pretty awesome wherein knockout wins are dominating the winnings.
Who will win in this rematch is still unknown and it’s too early to predict yet. Few hours from now, answers would be revealed. Who’s your bet by the way? Fee free to post it in comment box.
